                 "THE L/FE OF VICTORY"

                                            LESSON 7

                   GOD'S ALMIGHTY ARM

                                                      By: Hans Hofman

Dear friend,

In the book of Exodus there are some very important lessons for us to learn.

To start this lesson read the first four chapters and the fourteenth. This way

you will find that the Lord is able to increase His blessing to you.

We see in chapter 1 how a whole nation grew from a small group of people.

"God's nation.." This nation didn't live in their own land but in Egypt.

As a result of the growth of this nation the Government (who did not serve God)

began to be afraid that one day they would lose power.

Fear offers a way in for Satan to introduce evil such as murder, Iying, pride etc.

into Man's HEART. This is what happened to Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt

(Ex. 1:8-16). The midwives who worked among God's people were ordered by him

to commit murder. But these women FEARED THE LORD and did not obey this

evil (satanic) command, and the Lord blessed their OBEDIENCE TOWARDS GOD.

God always rewards obedience !

(Ex. 1 :20-22). Then in chapter 2 verses 11-15 we see another scenario which in

principle also has to do with obedience and SUBSMISSION TO GOD.

Here we see the man Moses giving free rein to his feelings' and 'emotions'

instead of SEEKING for God and His plan of salvation.

Because he made the mistake of using his own human solution and took things into

his own hands, he lost his freedom. He became a slave of fear. Fear and anxiety are

connected with punishment. PERFECT LOVE CASTS OUT FEAR (1 John 4:18).

Moses had to learn to SUBMIT his emotions and feelings to the HOLY SPIRIT.

The arm of the flesh NEVER brings victory, but fear, defeat, poverty and corruption.

(see also Ex. 3:19).

In Exodus we read about the call of Moses. God calls and commissions in His time.

God saw the abuse, the pain, the persecution which was meted out to His people.

For they CRIED OUT TO GOD for help (2:23) and God saw and heard for He wants

to be CALLED upon as the Lord who saves and who provides a way out. (3:15).

God is a rewarder of those who EARNESTLY seek Him. Not only when we are in

trouble but always, in good times and bad (3:20). God keeps to His own time

schedule. He is the one who sees all of our circumstances, and who knows all

about our experienced enemy Satan as well as our own flesh. We can only see

what comes within our limited field of vision. God is always greater because He

sees everything.

In Ex. 4 you see how God gives the great commission to Moses and by so doing

begins to respond to the cry for help. Then in Ex. 4 Moses comes with an argument

which is very understandable from a HUMAN POINT OF VIEW.

What if they don't believe me and won't listen? (4:1) Then we see that.

"when God calls" it is NOT the work of that person himself, but that despite God's

call to him the work remains GOD'S WORK.

God promises to work with signs and wonders. (3:20, 4:2-7, Mark 16:14-18) It is not

so much a question of the beautiful words we speak or the studied tactics we

employ, but .GOD'S HAND which by the POWER of the HOL Y SPIRIT works with

us and through the channel of your faith confirms the word with signs and wonders.

(Mark 16:14-18, Joel 2, etc.) The arm of the flesh is always too short but God's arm

is NEVER too short to save and to offer a way out.

Thus some (perhaps you at this moment) can be repressed or robbed of a normal

pattern of life as God intended it to be by political dictatorship or faulty godless

policy making. But also ilIness, addiction and financial problems can lead to

slavery and repression.

The arm of the flesh in the form of violence, witchcraft, occult-infected natural

methods or meditation techniques (yoga, transcendental, etc.) bring Man only

deeper into slavery.

Only the God of Israel can offer Man TOTAL salvation through HlS SON JESUS

CHRIST !! As a disciple of Jesus Christ you too are appointed and called to

preach deliverance to those who are in captivity.

Jesus said, " I AM the Door. Whoever enters by Me shall find pasture........... "

Jesus opened the way on the cross by" DEFEATING Death (the wages of sin)

and Satan!!

The Door stands open. There is also a world of people about whe are lost without

Jesus. Will you extend to them the invitation? Pray that the Lord may give you a

special annointing of His Holy Spirit for souIs. (Luke 11: 11-13, Acts 2:38-39,

Joël 2:28-29 etc.) Obedience and learning to recognise God's time are important

KEYS to a victorious life to the honour and glory of God.

Questions:

       1. Jesus has promised His disciples victory over the sins of the flesh but also

over repression from outside. Egypt in the Bible is a picture of our old life.

How did the Israelites respond EMTIONALLY when they looked at their foes?

          Exodus 14:10 .................................................................................................

2. Whom did they cry out to in their oppressive fear? Exodus 14:10

    ......................................................................................................................

3. Were their HEARTS right before God. considering their words in verses 11 and 12?

    ......................................................................................................................

4. Fortunately they had a leader who still believed in the God of miracles.

Moses showed in Ex 14:13 an attitude of faith in God. What, according to him,

should they see? Ex 14:13 ..............................................................................

5. Moses "true to his faith" prophesied that they should see God's saving power.

"The Lord shall fight for you, and you shall be"................................

Sometimes people are so bound up and full of their problems that they don't Iet

God speak to save them. Give God room to work to reveal HlS glory to

    you !! Ex. 14:14

6. What do you think Moses did in verse 15a? ........................................................

7. In Ex 14:16 and 18 Moses received directions to work a miracle.

We also see how God takes control of all the circumstances and leads. WHAT

IS THE FINAL OBJECTIVE of God's wonder-working power? Ex. 14:17

    ........................................................................................................................

       8. The Israelites were not only cut off from and lead out of their old situation/life.

They were also saved from their old enemies. (compare Galatians 5:24).

Firstly from their old lifestyle (conversion), then through the water they were cut

off and saved (baptism). This is the process of "being born again".

After that the new life begins. Free but not licentious or pleasing yourself.

God is HOLY, PURE and CLEAN. Which promise does the Lord give in

           Exodus 15:26? .................................................................................................

9. What did the first Christians do continuously? Acts 2:42 .......................................

    ........................................................................................................................

10. From what did Jesus Christ learn obedience while He was on earth?

     Hebrews 5:8 .....................................................................................................

11. How did Jesus Christ respond to difficult circumstances during His life here on

     earth? Hebrews 5:7 ............................................................................................

     .......................................................................... (Read also Hebrews 5:9, 10

       12. In this way Jesus submitted His feelings and emotions to God the Father and

the Holy Spirit (Isaiah 53:7, Hebr. 5:8, Luke 23:46 etc. SUBMISSION,

STEADFASTNESS (remaining true to your faith) and the KNOWLEDGE of

God's ultimate purpose and objectives gave Jesus the victory.

Jesus demonstrated on Golgotha that the triune God is UNCONQUERABLE.

Colossians 2:15 WHICH WEAPON does the Bible mention in Proverbs 14:27,

that wil! conquerthe the snares of sin? ..............................................................

      .....................................................................................................................

13. Which characteristic of Jesus do we also find mentioned in Prov. 14:30?

      .......................................................................................................................

14. Is this characteristic from Prov. 14:30 also a good treatment for iIIness?

     ........................................................................................................................

15. What is not a good treatment for iIIness? Prov. 14:30

      .......................................................................................................................

16. What attitude towards God leads to iIIness according to Prov. 14:32?

      .......................................................................................................................

17. What, according to Prov. 15:4, is a "tree of Life"?

      .......................................................................................................................

18. What will the end be of them who haughtily reject God and continue in their

      sinful nature? Malachi 4:1..................................................................................

19. But what will rise for those who fear the Lord? Malachi 4:2

      .......................................................................................................................

20. What will there be as well as righteousness and joy? 4:2

      .......................................................................................................................

       21. Mark 16:18 shows that we do NOT HAVE TO WAlT for the return of the Lord

Jesus TO BE HEALED of all our diseases and cares and to BE SAVED.

These promises are BASED ON THE COMPLETED WORK OF CALVARY.

The Christians in Acts 4:30,31 also confessed that. They had already had an

experience, a meeting with Jesus during their BELIEVING PRAYER.

What does God say in James 5:15? ..................................................................

      .......................................................................................................................

      ................................................................................................. (read 5:14-18)

So Jesus has dealt on Calvary with our foes once and for all. Hebrews 7:27 That

does not mean that we can passively wait in our Christian living. Passive faith is

dead (James 2). We can share in God's victory by walking with and like Jesus

(1 John 2:6, Jude 20-23, Acts 10:38 etc.) Holy, pure, submitted and tuned in to

God's Holy Spirit. Walk in the Holy Spirit! This costs steadfastness and consecration

in prayer and ACTIVE DEALING with others. In other words, first of all seek God's

Kingdom and work the works of God's kingdom in our dealings, thoughts, family,

church, etc. Jude 20, 1 John 2:6). The measure of victory which Jesus gives is

determined by the extent to which you are prepared to work WITH HIM IN UNITY

and to allow HIM to work. When you REMOVE EACH LlMITATION that you are

placing on God. Limitations which you have perhaps got from doctrines or from

human thinking - and when you GIVE HlS WORD and HlS HOLY SPIRIT ROOM

TO WORK, then you will experience God's glory and power in your life beyond

anything you can imagine or pray for.
